Bulgaria is well known for the Rkatsiteli grape. Originally grown in the Republic of Georgia (another fantastic destination!!), this ancient white grape is widely grown throughout Eastern Europe. Think crisp Pinot Grigio. Bulgaria’s wine culture also includes some of Europe’s most interesting blends, known as “Komatevo.” These blends are made with Misket (another indigenous white grape), Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
