In Praise Of… The Spritz Veneziano

Posted May 8th, 2015 by Vineyard in Travel

No trip to Northern Italy is complete without indulging in a Spritz Veneziano – the zesty orange beverage that has become Italy’s signature apertivo. More casually known as ‘Spreetz’, the Spritz Veneziano is a mixture of Aperol (an orange bitter made from an infusion of herbs, roots, orange and rhubarb), local Prosecco, sparkling water, an orange slice and a green olive.

Typically low in alcohol, the Spritz Veneziano makes an ideal ‘any time’ drink. Expect no two Spreetz’s to taste alike as bartenders across Italy like to make their own versions of this national favourite.

Although you can experiment with mixing your own Spritz Veneziano at home, seasoned travellers concur it somehow tastes better sitting in an open air caffe in Venice!
